Protein Function | associate with nascent RNA polymerase II transcripts to yield hnRNP particles, playing key roles in mRNA metabolism, DNA-related functions and microRNA biogenesis.key roles in neuronal functioning and its depletion, either due to debilitated cholinergic neurotransmission or under autoimmune reactions.HnRNP A1 modulates alternative splicing of APP, inhibiting the generation of toxic Aβ thus protecting from Alzheimer's disease. |

Biochemical Properties | it is a DNA biniding protein.N-terminal half of the protein is composed of two similar globular regions in tandem; the major part of each is an RNA-recognition motif (RRM). These two RRMs, referred to as RRM1 and RRM2, show high sequence similarity.RRMs are compact structures composed of a four β-strands sheet adjoined by two α-helices, in a structure of β1α1β2β3α2β4C-terminal half of hnRNP A1 is compositionally biased, being enriched by glycine residues. This half of the protein harbors an RNA-binding motif, present in some of the hnRNP protein variants, and a nuclear targeting sequence. |
