Secondary Information

Protein Function plasma glycoprotein which participates in the middle phase of intrinsic blood coagulation; During coagulation, factor IX is converted to an enzyme,factor IX;l, by factor XIa- Factor IXa then converts factor X (Stuart factor) to factor Xa in the presence of factor VIII. Factor IX is a factor of the blood coagulation system. Its activation occurs on the surface of phospholipid membranes.
Biochemical Properties single polypeptide chain with an amino-terminal sequence of Tyr-Asn-Ser-Gly; isoelectric point is 3.7; binds to Dextran Blue in the presence of calcium ions; susceptible to minor protease degradation by plasma enzymes
PTMs Glycosylated: contains approximately 26% carbohydrate which includes 10.6% hexose, 6.5% V-acetylhexosamine, and 8.7% V-acetyIncuraminic acid;
