Secondary Information

Protein Function Protein arginine methyltransferases (PRMTs) catalyze protein arginine methylation and are linked to carcinogenesis and metastasis.
Biochemical Properties The PRMT family consists of ten PRMT proteins (PRMT 1–10) that have been identified to date, and all PRMT proteins, except PRMT8, are expressed in various tissues. However, PRMT expression in macrophages has not been investigated. The main function of PRMT5 and PRMT7 lies in Vpr-mediated virus production in macrophages.

Significance of PTMs Automethylation of PRMT7 at R531, plays a key role in inducing the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) program and in promoting the migratory and invasive behavior of breast cancer cells.
Additional Comments PRMT7 is indeed a type III human methyltransferase capable of forming only ω-N(G)-monomethylarginine, not asymmetric ω-N(G),N(G)-dimethylarginine or symmetric ω-N(G),N(G')-dimethylarginine
