Secondary Information

Protein Function A new membrane-associated acyl-CoA synthetase (ACS), termed bubblegum-related protein (BGR), which upon functional analysis demonstrated ACS activity capable of activating long- and very long-chain fatty acids.
Biochemical Properties BGR cDNA encoding a protein with broad overall homology to the human BGM protein with 50% identical and 68% similar amino acids. The protein exhibits several features of an ACS, namely an AMP-binding motif and a fatty acidbinding motif common to all bubblegum orthologs characterized so far and which exhibits slight homology to known ACSVL motifs.

DisProt Annotation
TM Helix Prediction No TM helices
Additional Comments The BGM enzyme shares several features with other ACSs: (i) it is able to activate LCFA and VLCFA; and (ii) shows a distinct tissue distribution
