Secondary Information

Protein Function PLS3 (plastin 3, also known as T-plastin or fimbrin) has been considered a rather inconspicuous protein, involved in F-actin-binding and -bundling.
Biochemical Properties PLS3 consists of 630 amino acids and the molecular mass of the protein is 70.8 kDa. In humans, the homology between PLS1 and PLS2 is 73%, 75% between PLS1 and PLS3, and 79% between PLS2 and PLS3. Comparisons of the plastin isoforms between humans and mice show 94% identity for PLS1, 96% for PLS2, and 99% for PLS3

Additional Comments when PLS3 is upregulated, it acts as a highly protective SMN-independent modifier in spinal muscular atrophy (SMA).
