Secondary Information

Protein Function Glutathione peroxidase-1 (GPx-1) is an intracellular antioxidant enzyme that enzymatically reduces hydrogen peroxide to water to limit its harmful effects.
Biochemical Properties The selenoenzyme glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px) is a tetramer of identical subunits each exhibiting a molecular weight of 21kDa.
PTMs Glycation at Lys-110,Phosphorylation at Serine,N6-acetylation at Lys

DisProt Annotation
TM Helix Prediction No TM helices
Significance of PTMs The effects of glycation decides the hydrogen bond distances between carbonyl oxygen and nitrogen atoms of hydrogen bonded pairs in the active site helix of glutathione peroxidase. In the presence of water, there are significant increases in the hydrogen bond distances of Thi-48, Val-49, Tyr-52 and Thr-53, as a result of glycation of glutathione peroxidase by molecular modelling.
